Spank Rock (and Roll).

Così, Boyz Noize è armonia, Spank Rock ritmo, l’ultimo lavoro “Everything is boring and everyone is a fucking liar” è amore.

“I wanna go West, like Kayne” (cit. Spank Rock )

E il sesto giorno furono creati i Justice

Justice.

Evoluzione in pillole: «Stand in line as we march to the drums of the east, Paralyzed and possessed by crusaders deceased, Lost in the silence, the call from the turbulent times. Bound by the science that lives on the lips of the wise. The beating of a million drums/The fire of a million guns/The mother of a million sons.Civilization».

Giustizia fu fatta. (Genesis – †)

Nigga is the New Black!

«We could call it just history month, but it’s more than that. It’s about forgotten heroes and stories that we never get told at school. We are taught more about the Battle of Waterloo at school than the relevance of Dr Martin Luther King. We hope this month goes some way to fill in the gaps».

1971 Pink Floyd at Pompeii ha 40 anni

Beirut?? They definitively rock!

Probably you already know them, and you're gonna criticize me for this, but I've only recently found out this band..and..it's amazing..the way this guy (Zach Condon, from Santa Fe) and his band combine lots of instruments, lots of different sonorities and music elements: folk music from Europe, mainstream indie, western music and pop.

During his journeys around Europe Zach discovered and picked up those different styles that changed his life and totally influenced Beirut Music

Ukulele, trumpet, drums, guitar, accordion are only some of the instruments played by this extraordinary band.
In a time where everyone tends to uniform the music to a specific public and mainstream demand, they're breaking every boundary playing very originally…they definitively rock!!
I would like to suggest you some tracks:
first of all "Nantes" from their third album "The Flying Cup Club"…and then "East Harlem" a song from their last album "The Tip Tide" (August 2, 2011) UK #49, CAN #48 US #80

The Guardian this morning has published an article regarding ten of the best clubs and music venues in Edinburgh. It features The Cabaret Voltaire, Electric Circus, Bannerman's and others.

RATAWHAT?

Bella guys!
Welcome back to PlaySnack! Music 2 Eat.
The new post of today is about RATATAT!
Formed by guitarist Mike Stroud and producer Evan Mast (AKA E*vax) who met at Skidmore College the band formed during the first years of 2000.

Their first album "Ratatat" was released in 2004, a deep mixture of electronic music and rock, entirely instrumental except for some vocal excerpts which they define spoken interlude.
The most well known song on the album is "Seventeen Years". It was featured in a television advertisement titled "Accessorize" for the Hummer H2 in 2004 on the British television show Soccer AM as the original background music for "The Crossbar Challenge" segment, also in Level One Productions's ski movie "Shanghai Six".
In the same year the band released "Ratatar Remixes Vol.1" a collection of remixes made by the duo to a list of original songs played by American Hip Hop artists. This volume garnered the attention of Rolling Stone Magazine.
Second album came in 2006 and was titled "Classics" from which three singles were extracted: "Lex", "Wildcat", and "Loud Pipes". Few months later, in 2007 the band released the second volume of "Ratatat Remixes" titled in fact "Ratatat Remixes Vol. 2", 14 tracks full of electronic indie sounds backing famous Hip Hop artists' rhymes. Like the first volume, the second reached a good success among the scenes both Hip Hop and Electronic one.
Third album came in 2008, simply titles "LP3". Unlike the first two albums, this one was recorded just in a few weeks. Here the band experimented different genres using percussions, synthesizer patches, sound effects, and samples.
Ratatat is as much prolific on production as on live shows, having been touring top cities in USA and Europe. Their shows are a mix of light shows, swirling colors, and movie clips that get projected onto a screen. Evan Mast is the creator and the editor of those videos. A peculiarity of their concerts is that cameras are usually not allowed inside. In 2009 Ratatat contributed on two songs of the debut album "Man on the Moon: The End of Day" by Kid Cudi. The two songs are entitled "Alive" and "Pursuit of Happiness" (featuring MGMT).One year later, on June 8 2010 Ratatat released "LP4" fourth band's album. In an interview the band stated most songs were concepted during the recording of the previous album "LP3".In this new album many new instruments were used, changing slightly the band's sound never appearing though "completely different".Three music videos were produced for the tracks "Drugs", "Mahalo", and "Neckbrace".

My personal opinion on this band is that they are an extremely interesting act of the industry, for their artistic side that combines sounds and videos in a perfect mix that often makes the viewer reflecting, and for the innovation in style, not only because they can easily approach different genres and artists, but also for the freshness and the attraction power of their live concerts.

I chose to post three videos, the first is "Drugs" from LP4, the second is "Shempi" from LP3, and the third is a recording of one live concert (Bonnaroo 2011).

Bjork is Innovating!!

"in biophilia you will experience how three different things fuse together: nature-music-technology"
...
"We are on a bring of a revolution, that reunites human with nature, trough new technological innovation, until we get there, prepare, explore, biophilia…"

Bjork is Innovating!

Bjork, great artist of the alternative music scene, well known for her originality, always launched something new! but I think this time her idea is definitively outstanding!
Yesterday, 10th October she released the first Applications-Album! made in collaboration with Apple and available for iPad and iPhone..
I don't have any of these devices to try, but as I understood, every song works like a little game, where you can experience the music, that changes depending on your choices.
It turn out to be not only a listening experience, 'cause people can actively play with every song, exploring not only the music, but also the nature (that's the main theme of the album) and the technological applications. She said that Biophilia was partially composed by using tablets, so involving, more than usually, a large amount of technological stuff, that also will be used during live performances!
Don't worry! For the laziest guys or for who doesn't have any of the suitable devices, or for who just wants to relax by listening to music, there's also a normal version of the album, available for only £ 8.99 on Bjork official site (http://bjork.com/#).

WOW Deluxe is out! Brief talk about Verdena!

Yea! we're talking about Verdena, great rock band from Bergamo (Italy).
On 18th January 2011 was released their 5th album called "WOW", a double album (27 tracks), on 20th september 2011 was released WOW Deluxe, a special edition where you can find also a dvd with a live performance, backstages and videoclips from their last tour!
Personally I consider this album a masterpiece, although it would sound strange when you hear it for the first time, especially if you're an old fan of this band, 'cause it's totally different from their first or second album (when they were defined the Italian version of Nirvana). Now they use the piano, lot of synth and choirs. In my opinion it's like the last step of an evolution path they've been going trough.
Their prior album (Requiem) was released in 2007, so they spent a long time working on it, in the "Henhouse" (their studio it's a restructured henhouse in the mountains near Bergamo), experimenting, "bearing Alberto's pedantry" (cit.) and having had also some hard time (especially on the financial side: Roberta, one of them started to do some little jobs, Alberto and Luca borrowed money from their parents), but at the end the product was fantastic. They made and they're still making great success (lots of sold out during their tour). I went to some of their live performances and I totally suggest you to go as well... they absolutely rocks! There could be so much to talk about them, but I think it would be better if we could listen to some of their music!

ALIVE

Altri protagonisti abbandonano la scena ma Camerone Crowe ci ricorda che, come cantava Neil Young, Rock and Roll can never die.

Now I let Masa introduce you the first Face2Face... PlaySnack it!

For today’s F2F we are going to talk about two Divinities in their genres, all around artist with decades of experience on their shoulder.

Lewis Allan Reed was born on March 2, 1942 and is an American rock musician, songwriter, and photographer. He is best known as guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of The Velvet Underground cult band and for his subsequentely solo career (after 1971)

Metallica is an American Heavy Metal band from Los Angeles, California formed 30 years ago. The current line up includes the singer James Hetfielsd Lars Ulrich (drums), lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and the bassist Robert Trujillo (since 2003). They had released nine studio albums, three live albums, five extended plays, 24 music videos, and 45 singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the first band to do so.

So about this absolutely non-conventional collaboration the site www.loureedmetallica.com says:
The musical collaboration between Lou Reed and Metallica, "Lulu," is coming your way this Fall (Oct, 31st) and this space will be your spot for all things Loutallica(!).[...]
"Lulu" was inspired by German expressionist writer Frank Wedekind's plays "Earth Spirit" and "Pandora's Box," which tell a story of a young abused dancer's life and relationships and are now collectively known as the "Lulu Plays." Since their publication in the early 1900's, the plays have been the inspiration for a silent film ("Pandora's Box," 1929), an opera, and countless other creative endeavors. Originally the lyrics and musical landscape were sketched out by Lou for a theatrical production in Berlin, but after coming together with the 'Tallica boys for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in New York in 2009 all guilty parties knew they wanted to make more music together. Lou was inspired enough by that performance to recently ask the band to join him in taking his theatrical "Lulu" piece to the next level and so starting in early May of this year we were all camped out recording at HQ studios in Northern California, bringing us to today and ten complete songs.

Here you are the first revealed song from Lou Reed and Metallica upcoming album, "The View" a pure example of a 21st century rock opera. PlaySnack it!!!!

Do you prefer Cats or Dogs?

Welcome back to PlaySnack! ---- Music 2 Eat ----

Today I'm gonna talk about Evidence, Italian American rapper from Los Angeles, California.
Born of an Italian father and a Polish-American mother as Michael Perretta on December 10, 1976, Evidence started his career in the late 1980's in the beautiful city of Venice Beach, doing both rap and graffiti.
In the early 90's he teamed up with producer DJ Babu and rapper Rakaa to form the group "Dilated Peoples", which reached great success in the underground circuit by the end of the decade especially after the releases of "Third Degree" and "Work The Angles" (under ABB Records).
Dilated Peoples has so far released 5 albums, within 2000 and 2007.
During his work with Dilated Peoples, Evidence became a champion of hip-hop culture. "This is for people who get what I do. If I'm going to come out independently and have the freedom to do what I want, there's no better way to represent. I want to be a leader and carve out a new path." his personal statement.
Apart from "Dilated Peoples" Evidence started his solo career in 2007 with the release of the album "The Weatherman LP" containing productions of The Alchemist, Jake One, DJ Babu, DJ Khalil, and Evidence himself.
The album reached #42 in Billboard Indipendent Albums!
Four years have passed since then, and Evidence has decided to release a new album... with a new label, the famous Minneapolis based "Rhymesayers".

The album I'm talking about is "Cats & Dogs" released two days ago, September 27th.
Available on iTunes in both normal and Deluxe edition, the album contains 19 tracks (17 in the normal edition) produced by The Alchemist, Twiz the Beat Pro, Evidence, Rahki, Sid Roams, DJ Babu, Statik Selektah, Charli Brown, and historical New York hip hop producer DJ Premier.
The peculiarity of the album is the reality of the arguments described, that fuse easily with the different beats, giving the whole concept an underground taste but with a mainstream sound clash.
Numerous artists feature the tracks starting with Aloe Blacc ("I Need a Dollar
) in the first track, and then continuing with Raekwon, Ras Kass, Roc Marciano, Prodigy, Slug, Aesop Rock, Rakaa, Lil' Fame, Termanology, and Fashawn.
My personal advice is to buy this album, and to listen it carefully, you won't ever get tired of it!
The first single extracted is "You" produced by DJ Premier.

Jamming in the desert?? It Rocks!

Have you ever picked up some friends, few instruments and went in an isolated place just to play and jam together for hours without any limit?
I think the most of those who play an instrument have done so!
But…have you ever thought about what would happen if your friends are people like: Dave Grohl, Matt Cameron, Joey Castillo, Nick Olivieri, Mark Lanegan, PJ Harvey and other twenty or even more people from the Alternative Rock scene ??
This is what Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal are some of the bands he played in) and some other BIG friends usually do. The location is Rancho de la Luna (Joshua Tree, California) 10 album were born there from these collaborations!
DESERT SESSIONS!
Listening to the tracks you'll easily get the improvised style... So cool, so natural... Check 'em out!

These are some of the most famous tracks (you can also find them on QOTSA albums, "Era Vulgaris", 2007 and QOTSA , 1998) "I wanna make with chu" and "Nova"! PlaySnack it!

Lo capisci l'italiano?!

Ladies and gentleman, stay ready.
Hip hop heads, clean up your earphones because "Lo Capisci L'italiano?! Rap Controcultura?!", the new mixtape of Dj Double S hosted by Fabri Fibra is about to come out on October 1st!

Selected by DJ Double S and Fabri Fibra, Italy's number 1 MC and top charts artist, this album includes unpublished rhymes by Italian MCs such as Entics (which recently released his debut album "Soundboy" under Sony BMG and produced by Fabri Fibra's label "Tempi Duri Records"), Ensi, Kiave, Maury B, and Fabri Fibra himself.
The mixtape will be entirely released in digital free download on www.tempidurirecords.it for Big Picture Mngmt/Tempi Duri Records.

The mixtape is not a novelty for DJ Double S, in fact the DJ is at his fourth official release, counting the records published in 1997, 1999, and 2000.
Each chapter, always titled "Lo capisci l'italiano?!" and recorded on cassette, reached a huge success in the Italian Hip Hop scene, receiving acclamation by both Underground and Mainstream artists, and pushing the artist to re-release chapters 2 and 3 on CD formats.
But let's see a little more in depth who is DJ Double S.
Coming from Turin but of Southern Italian extraction, Double S has been working on a 20 years carreer. Starting djing at a young age, he has shared stages all around Italy with the best MCs of the peninsula, always bringing up and developing his passion for vinyls. Most important skills for a DJ are: technic, music knowledge, style, and talent.
We can easily say that he has all 4 of them!
Just back from Fabri Fibra's "Controcultura Tour" which touched all the most important cities in Italy, the DJ decided to gives his fans, but not only them, a personal gift that combines his passion for Hip hop and music in general.
"Rap as a way to have fun, to let off steam, to send messages, to denounce, to counterculture" his words on the upcoming mixtape!

Here we post four teasers for the promotion of the mixtape... so what are you waiting for??!! PlaySnack 'em!

We're new here

"Gil" Scott-Heron (April 1, 1949 – May 27, 2011) was an American poet, musician (Blues and Jazz) and author known primarily for his work as a spoken word performer in the 1970s and '80s. His very acclamed poetic style has been influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began. One of his most famous composition is “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, a sort of a hymn which had a massive impact on Black culture during the years and was generally defined as one of the best Political Songs. Just before dying Gil Scott Heron had relased an album after 16 years of silence titled “I’m new here”.

Jamie Smith a.k.a. Jamie XX is an English producer, percussionist and a former member of the XX, London-Based indie pop band that won with their first album the noticeable Barclaycard Mercury Prize.
“We’re new here” is the remix album of Gil Scott-Heron’s last album “I’m new here”.

Produced by Jamie XX and relased on 21st of February 2011 this record can be considered an experiment and a sort of a tribute by a big fan to a great Master of the music. The peculiar feature of this project is how you can hear the producer deconstructing and then reconstructing the tracks in a new way skipping in different subgenres .

My advice is to listen both to the original album and the remix one, you can taste the subtle difference between an analogical and a digital way of create a song.

Let's talk about Belle & Sebastian!

Indie-pop band from Glasgow, they were born in 1996 as a school project, precisely a final music course assignment for Stuart Murdoch... Initially they didn't want to become a real group, but the success of their first album "Tigermilk", totally unexpected brought the members to think about being a band!
Personally I really love their music, not the usually mainstream pop music, since they combine lots of instruments, trying to do something new, without using much modern or electronic sounds inside their songs… so simple, humble, just like their appearance! They have already done eight albums...  Check them out!
I'd like to suggest you guys some tracks that I like ti listen the most: "It Could Have Been a Brilliant Carrier", "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" or "Judy And The Dream of Horses".
Their last album "Write About Love" was released one year ago, and has reached position 8 on "UK Top 100 Chart".
The next song is an extract of the album, PlaySnack it!

This album is SuperHeavy!!

Have you ever imagined five top world's artist combining in one single band and releasing a massive hit album?
Well, if you have it's the case that you play SuperHeavy!
SuperHeavy is a rock supergroup consisting of Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman.
Just by reading the names you might understand the power and energy this band can release, but when you listen to the album "SuperHeavy" you might remain thunderstruck by its mixture of sounds and musical styles.
Ranging from Rock, to Reggae, up to Indian ballads this album will certainly thrill you.
The unmistakable Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones) is perfectly adapted to all the sonorities of the tracks, while Joss Stone brings a touch of Soul music with her tremendous and electrifying voice. Dave Stewart (The Eurythmics) brings its experience on the guitar by making solos and riffs in both rock and reggae styles, never appearing out of the album's concept.
Damian Marley, son of the most famous reggae singer of all times Bob Marley, fills the gap between the reggae rhythm of the band and the rock dresses of their members. Absolutely amazing!
A.R. Rahman,
Indian film composer, record producer, musician, singer and philanthropist is capable of bringing into the band the typical ballads of his country, giving the album also an ethnic taste.
In short, this album kicks as*!!

SuperHeavy. From left to right: Damian Marley, Dave Stewart, Mick Jagger, A.R. Rahman, Joss Stone

In my opinion this is a perfect example of how some mainstream artists can create a sound that varies from the industry's main one, packing up a product that is perfect from the musical point of view, highly interesting on the experimental side, and soft but definetely conscious on the lyrics.
The album is already out (released in September 16th, 2011).

Here's the first single extracted, titled "Miracle Worker"... What are you waiting for?
