Welcome back to PlaySnack! ---- Music 2 Eat ----
Today I'm gonna talk about Evidence, Italian American rapper from Los Angeles, California.
Born of an Italian father and a Polish-American mother as Michael Perretta on December 10, 1976, Evidence started his career in the late 1980's in the beautiful city of Venice Beach, doing both rap and graffiti.
In the early 90's he teamed up with producer DJ Babu and rapper Rakaa to form the group "Dilated Peoples", which reached great success in the underground circuit by the end of the decade especially after the releases of "Third Degree" and "Work The Angles" (under ABB Records).
Dilated Peoples has so far released 5 albums, within 2000 and 2007.During his work with Dilated Peoples, Evidence became a champion of hip-hop culture. "This is for people who get what I do. If I'm going to come out independently and have the freedom to do what I want, there's no better way to represent. I want to be a leader and carve out a new path." his personal statement.
Apart from "Dilated Peoples" Evidence started his solo career in 2007 with the release of the album "The Weatherman LP" containing productions of The Alchemist, Jake One, DJ Babu, DJ Khalil, and Evidence himself.
The album reached #42 in Billboard Indipendent Albums!
Four years have passed since then, and Evidence has decided to release a new album... with a new label, the famous Minneapolis based "Rhymesayers".
The album I'm talking about is "Cats & Dogs" released two days ago, September 27th.
Available on iTunes in both normal and Deluxe edition, the album contains 19 tracks (17 in the normal edition) produced by The Alchemist, Twiz the Beat Pro, Evidence, Rahki, Sid Roams, DJ Babu, Statik Selektah, Charli Brown, and historical New York hip hop producer DJ Premier.
The peculiarity of the album is the reality of the arguments described, that fuse easily with the different beats, giving the whole concept an underground taste but with a mainstream sound clash.
Numerous artists feature the tracks starting with Aloe Blacc ("I Need a Dollar) in the first track, and then continuing with Raekwon, Ras Kass, Roc Marciano, Prodigy, Slug, Aesop Rock, Rakaa, Lil' Fame, Termanology, and Fashawn.
My personal advice is to buy this album, and to listen it carefully, you won't ever get tired of it!
The first single extracted is "You" produced by DJ Premier.

Jamming in the desert?? It Rocks!
Have you ever picked up some friends, few instruments and went in an isolated place just to play and jam together for hours without any limit?
I think the most of those who play an instrument have done so!
But…have you ever thought about what would happen if your friends are people like: Dave Grohl, Matt Cameron, Joey Castillo, Nick Olivieri, Mark Lanegan, PJ Harvey and other twenty or even more people from the Alternative Rock scene ??
This is what Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal are some of the bands he played in) and some other BIG friends usually do. The location is Rancho de la Luna (Joshua Tree, California) 10 album were born there from these collaborations!
DESERT SESSIONS!
Listening to the tracks you'll easily get the improvised style... So cool, so natural... Check 'em out!

These are some of the most famous tracks (you can also find them on QOTSA albums, "Era Vulgaris", 2007 and QOTSA , 1998) "I wanna make with chu" and "Nova"! PlaySnack it!

Lo capisci l'italiano?!
Ladies and gentleman, stay ready.
Hip hop heads, clean up your earphones because "Lo Capisci L'italiano?! Rap Controcultura?!", the new mixtape of Dj Double S hosted by Fabri Fibra is about to come out on October 1st!
Selected by DJ Double S and Fabri Fibra, Italy's number 1 MC and top charts artist, this album includes unpublished rhymes by Italian MCs such as Entics (which recently released his debut album "Soundboy" under Sony BMG and produced by Fabri Fibra's label "Tempi Duri Records"), Ensi, Kiave, Maury B, and Fabri Fibra himself.
The mixtape will be entirely released in digital free download on www.tempidurirecords.it for Big Picture Mngmt/Tempi Duri Records.
The mixtape is not a novelty for DJ Double S, in fact the DJ is at his fourth official release, counting the records published in 1997, 1999, and 2000.
Each chapter, always titled "Lo capisci l'italiano?!" and recorded on cassette, reached a huge success in the Italian Hip Hop scene, receiving acclamation by both Underground and Mainstream artists, and pushing the artist to re-release chapters 2 and 3 on CD formats.
But let's see a little more in depth who is DJ Double S.
Coming from Turin but of Southern Italian extraction, Double S has been working on a 20 years carreer. Starting djing at a young age, he has shared stages all around Italy with the best MCs of the peninsula, always bringing up and developing his passion for vinyls. Most important skills for a DJ are: technic, music knowledge, style, and talent.
We can easily say that he has all 4 of them!
Just back from Fabri Fibra's "Controcultura Tour" which touched all the most important cities in Italy, the DJ decided to gives his fans, but not only them, a personal gift that combines his passion for Hip hop and music in general.
"Rap as a way to have fun, to let off steam, to send messages, to denounce, to counterculture" his words on the upcoming mixtape!
Here we post four teasers for the promotion of the mixtape... so what are you waiting for??!! PlaySnack 'em!

We're new here
"Gil" Scott-Heron (April 1, 1949 – May 27, 2011) was an American poet, musician (Blues and Jazz) and author known primarily for his work as a spoken word performer in the 1970s and '80s. His very acclamed poetic style has been influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began. One of his most famous composition is “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, a sort of a hymn which had a massive impact on Black culture during the years and was generally defined as one of the best Political Songs. Just before dying Gil Scott Heron had relased an album after 16 years of silence titled “I’m new here”.
Jamie Smith a.k.a. Jamie XX is an English producer, percussionist and a former member of the XX, London-Based indie pop band that won with their first album the noticeable Barclaycard Mercury Prize.
“We’re new here” is the remix album of Gil Scott-Heron’s last album “I’m new here”.
Produced by Jamie XX and relased on 21st of February 2011 this record can be considered an experiment and a sort of a tribute by a big fan to a great Master of the music. The peculiar feature of this project is how you can hear the producer deconstructing and then reconstructing the tracks in a new way skipping in different subgenres .
My advice is to listen both to the original album and the remix one, you can taste the subtle difference between an analogical and a digital way of create a song.
Here's the video of "I'll take care of you", come on, PlaySnack it!!!

Let's talk about Belle & Sebastian!
Personally I really love their music, not the usually mainstream pop music, since they combine lots of instruments, trying to do something new, without using much modern or electronic sounds inside their songs… so simple, humble, just like their appearance! They have already done eight albums... Check them out!
I'd like to suggest you guys some tracks that I like ti listen the most: "It Could Have Been a Brilliant Carrier", "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" or "Judy And The Dream of Horses".
Their last album "Write About Love" was released one year ago, and has reached position 8 on "UK Top 100 Chart".
The next song is an extract of the album, PlaySnack it!

This album is SuperHeavy!!
Have you ever imagined five top world's artist combining in one single band and releasing a massive hit album?
Well, if you have it's the case that you play SuperHeavy!
SuperHeavy is a rock supergroup consisting of Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Dave Stewart, Damian Marley, and A. R. Rahman.
Just by reading the names you might understand the power and energy this band can release, but when you listen to the album "SuperHeavy" you might remain thunderstruck by its mixture of sounds and musical styles.
Ranging from Rock, to Reggae, up to Indian ballads this album will certainly thrill you.
The unmistakable Mick Jagger (The Rolling Stones) is perfectly adapted to all the sonorities of the tracks, while Joss Stone brings a touch of Soul music with her tremendous and electrifying voice. Dave Stewart (The Eurythmics) brings its experience on the guitar by making solos and riffs in both rock and reggae styles, never appearing out of the album's concept.
Damian Marley, son of the most famous reggae singer of all times Bob Marley, fills the gap between the reggae rhythm of the band and the rock dresses of their members. Absolutely amazing!
A.R. Rahman, Indian film composer, record producer, musician, singer and philanthropist is capable of bringing into the band the typical ballads of his country, giving the album also an ethnic taste.
In short, this album kicks as*!!
In my opinion this is a perfect example of how some mainstream artists can create a sound that varies from the industry's main one, packing up a product that is perfect from the musical point of view, highly interesting on the experimental side, and soft but definetely conscious on the lyrics.
The album is already out (released in September 16th, 2011).
Here's the first single extracted, titled "Miracle Worker"... What are you waiting for?

Who is Pierpaolo Capovilla?
"Arts must not reflect the reality, arts must carve the reality… arts is not a recorder…arts don't record, arts change the world..." (cit. Pierpaolo Capovilla).
Yea!
Today guys I'm gonna talk about one of the most known artists of the Italian underground scene…Pierpaolo Capovilla (born in Venice in 1968).
Controversial, politically active, thinker of music, rock and arts in general as the most powerful social instruments. Famous also for his speech and especially for his voice: so impressive, attractive, different.
He's the leader of two cool projects:
The first is "One Dimensional Man" (Indie-Noise Rock) founded in 1996.
While I'm writing this post, I'm listening to their last album, and… Wow, it rocks! Really... Different from the previous ones and from the past works of Capovilla and company (among them: Giulio Ragno Favero, also founder of Teatro deli Orrori), it's more complete, with new sounds, electronic stuff, synth, in conclusion it seems a new era for ODM has just started! Let's say it's more adult, more mature.
From their last album "A better Man" (June 2011) this is "Fly"!
"Il Teatro degli Orrori"
Capovilla's second project, in my opinion it's a very cool one! The band's sound has been defined Noise Rock; though they try to combine rock music with songwriter style words. So a great focus on the lyrics plus an original music style give the result of a product that makes also people thinking other than only shaking their heads! Capovilla and other musicians founded this band in later 2005 and until now they have published 2 albums: "Dell'Impero delle Tenebre" (2007) and "A Sangue Freddo" (2009). The last one won the PIMI (Italian Prize for Indipendent Music) for the best album, in 2010!
This is "A Sangue Freddo" from the homonymous album!
Stay tuned... PlaySnack!

Fall Creek Boys Choir
Here’s to you “Fall Creek Boys Choir”, one of the most emotional collaboration of this year. Announced one week before by a criptic tweet on his account by James Blake the song was premiered by BBC Radio1 on 24 August 2011. The English songwriter always mentioned Vernon as one of his biggest influences so it was a kind of dream the “Chance meeting” at SXSW Festival in March. The song featured James Blake at production and James Vernon at vocals showing a kind of double soul: half electronic and half analogic.
Zane Lowe wrote this on his blog: “…this track is as atmospheris, as low key and as stunning as you'd imagine from Blake, here on production duties, and Justin Vernon who sings on this song.”

New Background and Drake's upcoming album!
Hello everyone!
Thank you for joining PlaySnack!. This is our third post since yesterday and we'd like to start a new day with a new background! I chose to use DJ Mehdi's album "Lucky Boy". For those who don't know, DJ Mehdi passed away last Tuesday, the 13th. I thought this was a good way for remembering him. Rest in peace, friend. Going back to us, I would like to talk about the upcoming album by Canadian rapper and singer Drake.

| Drake |
"Take Care" is the upcoming second studio album by the artist, scheduled for release through Young Money Entertainment and Cash Money Records on his 25th birthday, October 24, 2011. Drake's first album "Thank Me Later" was a big success in United States, selling around 1.5 millions copies. Also the album received many positive critics by the most famous magazines and music websites in the world, results that gave Drake a good visibility among the hip hop scene. In fact he recently featured with many American rappers's works in particular with top selling artist Nicki Minaj on her last album. In Drake's new record many producers will be present such as Noah "40" Shebib (who is also the main producer of the album), 9th Wonder, T-Minus, Jamie Smith from The xx, The Neptunes, and maybe Q-Tip (it is still unclear whether whether his tracks will be present). About the artists that will feature Drake in "Take Care" we will surely hear Phonte, T-Pain, Florence and the Machine, 8Ball & MJG, Soulja Boy, Stevie Wonder, Cher, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, The Weekend, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, and Bruno Mars.
Though the album appears very promising, it is still unclear whether it will reply the success of Drake's debut record. We will just have to wait!Meanwhile PlaySnack! the first official single extracted: "Headlines".
