We're new here

"Gil" Scott-Heron (April 1, 1949 – May 27, 2011) was an American poet, musician (Blues and Jazz) and author known primarily for his work as a spoken word performer in the 1970s and '80s. His very acclamed poetic style has been influential upon every generation of hip hop since his popularity began. One of his most famous composition is “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, a sort of a hymn which had a massive impact on Black culture during the years and was generally defined as one of the best Political Songs. Just before dying Gil Scott Heron had relased an album after 16 years of silence titled “I’m new here”.

Jamie Smith a.k.a. Jamie XX is an English producer, percussionist and a former member of the XX, London-Based indie pop band that won with their first album the noticeable Barclaycard Mercury Prize.
“We’re new here” is the remix album of Gil Scott-Heron’s last album “I’m new here”.

Produced by Jamie XX and relased on 21st of February 2011 this record can be considered an experiment and a sort of a tribute by a big fan to a great Master of the music. The peculiar feature of this project is how you can hear the producer deconstructing and then reconstructing the tracks in a new way skipping in different subgenres .

My advice is to listen both to the original album and the remix one, you can taste the subtle difference between an analogical and a digital way of create a song.

Here's the video of "I'll take care of you", come on, PlaySnack it!!!
